Spirit Airlines Brings ‘Dumbo’ Plane to BWI Marshall Airport.

March 07– Mar. 7–Disney’s reboot of “Dumbo” doesn’t come out until March 29, but BWI Marshall Airport got a sneak peek at the flying elephant with oversized ears Wednesday.

Spirit Airlines flew its newly decorated Dumbo-themed Airbus A321 — part of a promotional partnership with Disney — into Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport on Wednesday, the airport announced.

Baltimore passengers will be among the first to fly aboard the Dumbo plane when it leaves Thursday morning. The plane also is flying to airports in Detroit, Orlando, Fla., San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Fort Lauderdale, Fla., in its first three days of service, before traveling across the country for the next two months, according to the airline.

Spirit, the second-largest airline after Southwest at BWI, carries more than 9 percent of the airport’s passengers and flew more than 1.9 million of them last year.

The Miramar, Florida-based airline shifted its regional operations to BWI in 2012, and recently announced new service from Baltimore to Jacksonville, Fla., Austin, Texas, San Juan, Raleigh-Durham, N.C., and Charlotte, N.C.
