Enjoy Apple Music on American Airlines.
Starting Friday, Apple Music subscribers can enjoy the service on domestic flights with American Airlines without purchasing Wi-Fi.
Complete access to the service and its more than 50 million songs will be available on flights equipped with Viasat satellite Wi-Fi. American Airlines is the first commercial airline to offer the service.
Music makes everything better — even mundane flights across the country. But what if you forgot to download your favorite playlist before boarding? Are you really going to fork out a small fortune for Wi-Fi?
With American Airlines, you don’t have to.
Apple Music takes to the skies
Apple today confirmed that American Airlines has become the first commercial airline to offer Apple Music access through complimentary in-flight Wi-Fi. You’ll get full access to the service without having to cough up for internet access, though you will need an Apple Music subscription.
“For most travelers, having music to listen to on the plane is just as important as anything they pack in their suitcases,” said Oliver Schusser, vice president of Apple Music.
“With the addition of Apple Music on American flights, we are excited that customers can now enjoy their music in even more places. Subscribers can stream all their favorite songs and artists in the air, and continue to listen to their personal library offline, giving them everything they need to truly sit back, relax and enjoy their flight.”
In addition to accessing your library, you’ll be able to listen to curated playlists and the Beats 1 global livestream. The partnership gives Apple Music yet another advantage over rivals like Spotify and Tidal.
Apple Music hits 50 million subscribers
The news comes just a day after Apple confirmed that its Music service now boasts more than 50 million paying subscribers. The company just raked in its highest quarterly music revenue ever as a result.
In total, the Services business, which Apple Music falls into, made $10.9 billion for the December quarter.
Apple has also teamed up with Verizon to bundle Apple Music with top-tier unlimited plans starting early this year.
