Describing DXB’s performance during the year as very satisfying, Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports said, “We are very pleased with the overall growth at DXB in general and passenger traffic in particular, with average monthly traffic nearing 7 million passengers this year. Considering the seasonal rush of travellers we experienced at DXB during the holiday season in December, we are all set to achieve impressive annual growth yet again.”
Analyst Saj Ahmad said: “Dubai International’s powerful growth in 2016 showed no sign of stopping as the airport handled almost 76m passengers through to November.
“The sheer demand for travel to and through the key Gulf gateway means that the airport is well on track to achieve another record-breaking year for traffic as well as cementing it’s place as the world’s busiest international airport.”
Ahmad added: “Services to and from India were big drivers for November thanks‎ to new flights from an array of Indian airlines, however, the big two dominant home incumbents in Emirates and flydubai have bolstered their organic expansion to help drive traffic to the hub.
“It’s more than likely that 2017 will form the basis of another highlight year for Dubai International, while in the background, additional new development work at Dubai World Central will get underway to accommodate flydubai when it shifts operations there later this year through early 2018.”
