Civil aviation and tourism ministry approved the fare yesterday, said a circular issued by the ministry\’s Senior Assistant Secretary Md Abdur Rashid.
Based on the exchange rate of the US dollars during the issuance of ticket, the fare on Dhaka-Jeddah and Madina-Dhaka routes will be fixed in taka, according to the circular.
The airfare will be applicable for both Biman Bangladesh Airlines and Saudi Airlines, officials of the national carriers of Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia told The Daily Star.
Last year, airfare set for a hajj pilgrim was around US $ 1,550, said Habibullah Bahar, immediate past president of Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh.
Sources at the religious affairs ministry said the cabinet may approve the lowest rate of this year\’s hajj package next week.
In the last year, the lowest price of the hajj package was fixed at Tk 3.21 lakh.
This year, a total of around 1.27 lakh Bangladeshis will get the opportunity to perform hajj. Of them, 7,198 are set to perform hajj under the government management and the rest under private management, the sources added
