during summer months United Airlines will stop allowing pets to travel in four cities .
United Airlines has a new pet travel policy.
United Airlines, the 4th largest air carrier in the United States, has enacted new rules for its Pet-safe program, effective immediately.
Only cats and dogs will be accepted under the new policy, and there are 21 dog breeds and four cat breeds that United will not allow to fly.
Also, pets will also be banned from flying when the ground temperature is below 45 degrees or above 85 degrees.
United will completely stop pet travel in four airports during summer months: Phoenix, Tucson, Palm Springs, and Las Vegas.
Several high-profile incidents, including one in which a dog died after being placed in an overhead bin, led to United putting the new bans in place.
The airline will not accept reservations for short- or snub-nosed dogs and cats and strong-jawed dog breeds, out of concern for higher adverse health risks.
